MPBBA Membership

If you are the owner of a beach box on the Mornington Peninsula, you are invited to become a member of the Association. The member must be a natural person and nominated by the licensee with only one member accepted per licence.

Your membership is important for many reasons. It ensures our Association can continue to represent licensees on many issues related to beach box ownership particularly at local and state government level, and it provides you with compulsory public liability insurance.

What is Public Liability Insurance?

Public liability insurance (PLI) protects licensees against any liability claim from a third party arising from bodily injury or property damage that is associated with their beach box up to $20 million.

The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) (formally DELWP) Guidelines for the management of existing bathing boxes and boatsheds on marine and coastal Crown land – March 2022 – Clause 3.2.2 requires “All licensees must take out public liability insurance for their bathing box or boatshed”. An owner of a bathing box or boatshed is referred to as the licensee.

The membership fee of $85 includes public liability insurance for the licensee. Obtaining public liability insurance as an individual can be both difficult and expensive. The Association also ensures the relevant Committee of Management is notified of your cover.

As a member you will receive a welcome pack which includes a cap, membership plaque and an information pack. You will also receive regular newsletters with invaluable information plus an invitation to the annual general meeting.
